HISTORY OF THE BUS SCROLL
During the 1900s, buses, trams, trolleys, and subways used flexible, pre-printed scrolls to indicate the stops or destinations riders would encounter along various routes. Drivers would manually hand crank the scrolls to reveal the next stop.
Originally printed on linen, by the 1960s scrolls were printed on Mylar. Eventually, bus scrolls were replaced by electronic signs.
When unrolled, bus scrolls tell a story… places traveled… destinations visited… stops in a journey.
A customized, vintage-style bus scroll is original, hand-painted art that tells a story… your story!
